  1. The area of the city to the west of the Isthmus and farther out than the central part of the city. Important because West Siders and East Siders in Madison take pride in their choice to live in one vs. the other. West Siders tend to be more yuppie types, but they themselves don't consider that word a negative. East Siders are more funky, artsy, alternative, hippie types.

  2. The West Side of Madison is Madison's "suburban" part of town. There are many nice neighborhoods. Young professionals tend to settle down in Madison's West Side.
