  1. The street running from University Mall to the State Capitol building. Considered the heart of downtown Madison and campus, State Street is famous for bars, galleries, restaurants, shopping and an array of interesting people. The street can only be driven on by buses, taxis and police cars.

  2. State Street is a pedestrian street that extends from the east end of the UW-Madison campus (on Lake Street, right before Library Mall) to the capitol square (the Wisconsin State Capitol). On State Street you'll find a number of ethnic restaurants, small mom-and-pops retail stores, as well as several sidewalk cafes. You'll also see street performers of all kinds, but mostly just hippies playing the guitar. State Street is also home to one of the best Halloween parties in the country. On this short city street, crowds have amassed of over 100,000 people.

  3. A pedestrian street that stretches from Library Mall on the UW-Madison campus to the Wisconsin State Capitol. The entire stretch is about five blocks. On Halloween, State Street holds as many as 50,000 rowdy partiers in a variety of great costumes.
