    Past Words of the Day

Pejorative nickname given to Madison by political conservatives due to its long history of progressive politics. (Also see "60 square miles surrounded by reality".)

A quintessential Rhode Island treat, made with milk and coffee syrup. Believe it or not, coffee milk is in fact the official state beverage.

All those people living in Aspen, CO, they are called Aspenites. The people visiting? Still just tourists.

Indiana University-Purdue University at Indianapolis or IUPUI, the acronym that inspired the not-so-flattering nickname.

Guy in midtown Atlanta who marches around, twirling a baton. An inspiration for many.

"Notsoberfest" takes place the last weekend of September, kicking off La Crosse's famous Oktoberfest celebration. People stand around in beer tents and down pitcher after pitcher of beer. Just about everyone there is "not sober".

    Coffee with cream and sugar.
