  1. The Beltline is the main East/West route through Madison's south side. It stretches from I-90 on the East ending in Middleton on the West. Because of the many lakes in Madison, there are no highways going directly through Madison. Like many larger cities, this highway can see its fare share of traffic problems. If you are accustomed to Chicago traffic the Beltline is nothing to worry about, however if you're not accustomed to traffic it is best avoided during rush hour. Highway 12 runs the entire length of the Beltline, highways 14 and 18 also merge to become part of the Beltline during much of its length. Posted by: strudelwagon on Apr 07, 2008 (4) (0)
  2. The ills of the Beltline are greatly exaggerated. For most of the day it's actually a pretty efficient way to get from the east to the west, and vice versa. Posted by: Anonymous on Dec 23, 2009 (1) (0)
  3. A good place to street race. Speeds of 120 are easy to obtain, as long as you are coordinated enough to weave in and out of cars. I-90/39 is also a great place to go fast, just watch out for the State Patrol! Posted by: Anonymous on Mar 24, 2012 (0) (0)
  4. The Beltline at high traffic time is like a walk in the park compared to driving anywhere in Chicago at lunchtime. Posted by: Anonymous on Dec 22, 2009 (0) (0)
  5. The Beltline sucks in the summer because it buckles every time the temperature gets above 90. To be avoided at all costs in summer! Posted by: Anonymous on Jun 24, 2009 (1) (1)
  6. The root of all evil. If you don't know Madison that well then it's the simplest way to get around, but if you know the area it is to be avoided at all costs. Bad drivers and lots of congestion, its just an all around pain. Posted by: Sofi on May 05, 2008 (2) (2)
  7. Also known as Highway 12-18, the Beltline is a highway that stretches across an East-West axis along Madison's south side. It starts curling up north once it gets to the west side. Posted by: madmax on Apr 04, 2008 (2) (2)
