  1. The Beltline is the main East/West route through Madison's south side. It stretches from I-90 on the East ending in Middleton on the West. Because of the many lakes in Madison, there are no highways going directly through Madison. Like many larger cities, this highway can see its fare share of traffic problems. If you are accustomed to Chicago traffic the Beltline is nothing to worry about, however if you're not accustomed to traffic it is best avoided during rush hour. Highway 12 runs the entire length of the Beltline, highways 14 and 18 also merge to become part of the Beltline during much of its length.

  2. The root of all evil. If you don't know Madison that well then it's the simplest way to get around, but if you know the area it is to be avoided at all costs. Bad drivers and lots of congestion, its just an all around pain.

  3. Also known as Highway 12-18, the Beltline is a highway that stretches across an East-West axis along Madison's south side. It starts curling up north once it gets to the west side.
