  1. Alfred Packer was one of a handful of people in the US ever convicted of cannibalism. But, in defense of the maligned prospector, it was only after his party became snowbound and had run out of provisions. Packer has since become a pop culture legend, so it is difficult to separate truth from fiction regarding the story.
