  1. "Bloody Sunday" took place on Sunday, March 7th, 1965. Civil rights protesters marched to the Edmund Pettus Bridge where they were stopped by police officers who then beat them with billy clubs and sprayed them with tear gas, pushing them back to the town of Selma.
